The Olympics are quickly approaching. Are you going to watch it? If so, what excites you about it?
1 Corinthians 9:24
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
One of the biggest things about the Olympics, that draws us in, is that it only happens every 4 years. For many athletes it is a once in a lifetime chance to show what they’re capable of accomplishing. It is this all or nothing, “go for the gold” attitude that brings fans to their feet in applause for the victors.
I have never heard any competitor say, “I just wanted to run on the Olympic track. That’s good enough for me. I don’t need to give my best.” That would be the craziest thing ever. No one would want to watch that athlete.
Yet, in the Christian walk, how often do we see this attitude.
“I’m saved and going to Heaven. That’s good enough for me.”
These believers will go to church on Sunday. But they don’t want to inconvenience themselves for God or His work. There is no passion in their walk. There is no drive or vision for what the Lord can do in and through them.
We need to take inventory of ourselves. What kind of a runner am I? Am I content to just sit back and let others win the prize? Or do I want to give it everything I have within me?
We need to pick up the “Olympic spirit” in our spiritual walk. Go for the gold. Let the Holy Spirit inspire you to accomplish great things for God. Through Him, we can do above and beyond all we could ever imagine that we could do. Be that victorious believer, who runs the race from a heart on fire for Christ.

Luke 9:28-32
About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.
This was a life-changing event in the eyes of the apostles. As Jesus prayed on the mountain, His appearance changed. For a brief instance He clothed Himself with the glory that was His throughout eternity.
It is God’s desire to do a similar work in us. When we receive a word from the Lord we are changed. We see what we could become – what we are truly called to be in Christ. In that moment we get a glimpse of the glory that could be evident in our lives.
This is our portion and our heritage in God. It could happen if we would only take the time to free ourselves from the cares and distractions of everyday life. By doing so we would enter a realm where God could speak to us in such a way as to change us forever.
Enter that life-changing presence today. Submit to the power of the Lord’s Word to you. Be transformed at His feet. Then descend the mountain – forever changed.

Exodus 13:17-18
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt armed for battle.
The best path is not always the shortest. Sometimes, the road you take is as important as the destination. As a matter of fact, if we wanted the quickest way between two points, we would have to fly like a bird!
We sometimes get frustrated with God because He doesn’t seem to be leading us to our destiny by the shortest route. As Israel had to learn, the shortest way may prove disastrous. God knew the road ahead and took them the way that would insure their survival. We need to trust God’s plan for our lives as well. It may be that the longer path is what’s needed for our ultimate victory.
Why are you taking the route you are on? That is not only a question you need to ask on the road, but also in life. What choices brought you to this place? Where does this road ultimately lead you? Is the destination worth the trip?
These are things to ponder in God’s presence as you free yourself of distractions. One of your goals should be to see where you’ve come from and where you are headed. That way you can make a course adjustment if necessary.
Spend time with the Lord today seeking His insight. Let Him share His mind with you. Remember, you might not be on the quickest path, but that doesn’t mean it is not the right one. Take the time today to establish God’s path as the final authority for your journey through life.

God has given you many precious promises. Some are in the Scripture, while others are more personal – between God and you. How real are they to you?
Deuteronomy 34:1-2
Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the LORD showed him the whole land – from Gilead to Dan, all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the western sea.
Sometimes, when you’re alone with God, He will take you for a mountaintop view of the promise. Maybe it will deal with your calling, career, family, relationships, or some other area of your life. At that point you will see clearly what He has in store for you, even if He doesn’t always show the path by which He will take you there.
It is always God’s will to share His plans with His people, the problem is, we are not always listening. The Lord waits until He has our undivided attention so that He can speak to us clearly and without distraction.
He wants to show you a glimpse of His plan for you. It will encourage you and strengthen you for the road ahead. Always be ready for these moments of clarity. Unfortunately, these times are few and far between in our lives. Missing the chance that the Lord offers will hurt your progress, but responding to His call will affect the rest of your life.
Use your time wisely. Spend quality time in His presence, listening for His voice. Seek to know His will for your life.

Exodus 4:19-20
Now the LORD had said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all the men who wanted to kill you are dead.” So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the staff of God in his hand.
Moses had been away from his adopted home in Egypt for a long while. But in this time of his life, God was calling him to go back. He had a mission from God – to set his people free. Even so, it still required a wilderness journey.
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to leave a comfortable place. Many people have had to move for various reasons. I have had to make a move a few times. It’s not that tough to pack up and fill boxes. But when the moving truck is all loaded and you are looking into an empty house or apartment – a subtle transformation occurs.
Suddenly, without warning, the place that you’ve called home for this part of your life is no longer yours. Now you’re on the road and headed for a new destination.
We may be very content where our life is right now. Then, when God calls us to a higher level, we can never be satisfied this way again. Remember that we need to be a people who are packed and ready to go. This world is not our home and the things of this world will never truly fulfill us.
When you go before the Lord today reiterate to Him your total commitment to following His path for your life – no matter where it leads. Thank Him for your destiny in Him. Then be open and listening for any course changes He may speak to you this day.

What is God’s greatest call on your life? What does He want you to do more than anything else?
Micah 6:8
He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
This is probably one of the most important concepts for any Christian to understand. It is God’s greatest desire for His people. It’s for them to come into relationship with Him. It’s not just about going to Him when we need help, but to simply spend time with Him – to walk with the Lord.
If you read the beginning of Genesis you will find that God walked regularly with Adam before the fall. Great men of faith, like Enoch, Abraham, and Moses walked with God. That’s His desire for us as well.
Walking with someone assumes certain things. It means that you have agreed to go in the same direction. You’re also going the same speed. In order for this to happen in the spiritual, we need to spend time with the Lord to get to know His heart. What direction is He going, and how quickly?
There is another key word in this verse – humbly. I am not the one setting the pace for this walk. I must yield my will to His. It’s unfortunate that so much of our time in prayer is spent trying to get God to walk in our direction and at our speed. No wonder there are so many frustrated Christians. We must learn that it’s God’s plan that’s important. I must pick up His plan if I want to succeed in this life.
Take the time today to humble yourself before God. Lay your plans at His feet. Let the Lord know that you’re willing to let Him set the pace for your life. Then you can go forward in the security that your destination is the one that God has planned out for you.

There is nothing worse than being lost. Confusion, fear and depression can take over. If you are not careful you can end up simply going in circles.
Life is the same way. There are thousands of conflicting paths that all intersect at our feet each morning. Without a guide we’re lost. How can we make sense of it all? Which path will bring us to the place we want to be?
Psalm 25:4-5
Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
The Holy Spirit wants to lead us though the tangled network of choices that lay before us. Only He knows the outcome of each path, whether taken or not. He has the wisdom to bring us victoriously into the destiny God has prepared for each of us personally.
There is no better place to start hearing the voice of the Lord than in a quiet place of prayer each morning. Here you can be free of the distractions that are constantly begging for your attention. Use your time in the Lord’s presence to strengthen your relationship with Him. I know that you will find that it is time well spent, as your path grows clearer before you.

Proverbs 12:1
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.
Discipline is one of those words that we don’t want to hear about too often. It brings up all kinds bad memories. But, like it or not, we all need discipline. In this verse, Solomon tells us that discipline and knowledge go hand in hand. Unfortunately it is something that this society seems to know very little about.
There is an attitude that says that I deserve to have what I want right now – no matter what. In many cases people will have their own way no matter what it does to their future. So often we are more than willing to place our future earnings, our relationships, and our health all on the altar of instant, momentary pleasure. Only discipline can keep our destiny safe.
The fact is that knowledge, without discipline, is almost worthless. Discipline is the ability to restrain my actions now and do what I need to do, so that I can have a greater enjoyment in the future. This goes against the “feel good now” attitude of our generation. Too often we are willing to sell our future for gratification in the present. That’s what Solomon is speaking to here.
Correction is when you are willing to listen to critical advice from someone who has been there. The word translated stupid in this version, simply means that they are destroying themselves. If you are not willing to take correction, and show the discipline it takes to change your direction, then you will slowly lose your future benefits.
How many times do we look back and say, “I wish I’d have done that differently.” The time is now to heed the voice of godly correction and allow discipline to shape your future. Don’t lose out on the destiny that God wants you to have. Don’t trade your future blessings for the instant gratification. Let discipline, knowledge, and correction bring you to a life worth living in Christ.

1Thessalonians 1:2-3
We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Faith, hope, and love – they are the three things that the Bible says will be with us eternally. Too often we think about them in spiritual terms. We get the idea that these are just good feelings that Christians should enjoy. Like they are wonderful gifts that should be tucked quietly away in our hearts.
NO WAY!!! Faith, hope, and love are the sparks that ignite our ministry before God. There are three different things that happen as a result of their influence on us.
First, faith produces our work. That word literally means your assignment. It is the task that God has given you. As you go before God in faith, He gives you grace for the calling He has placed upon your life. Faith causes you to stand in your assignment.
Then comes love – it prompts us to labor. That word means to use up your strength in performing a task. Without the love of God, we will never pour ourselves into the calling He has placed upon us. We are called to work with all of our strength. Without love, that will never happen.
Finally, hope inspires endurance. It’s easy to start out strong, but it’s how we finish that matters the most. Hope is the biblical word for expectation. If I do my part, then I can expect God to show up and do His part. That’s what keeps me going even when I don’t feel like it. Hope gives you the endurance to persevere to the end.
Let faith, hope, and love give you more than just a warm feeling. Let them spur you on to accomplishing your destiny in the Lord’s Kingdom.

1 Samuel 9:3-4
Now the donkeys belonging to Saul’s father Kish were lost, and Kish said to his son Saul, “Take one of the servants with you and go and look for the donkeys.” So he passed through the hill country of Ephraim and through the area around Shalisha, but they did not find them. They went on into the district of Shaalim, but the donkeys were not there. Then he passed through the territory of Benjamin, but they did not find them.
This sounds like a pretty boring passage of Scripture. All we see is Saul, wandering in the wilderness, looking for some lost donkeys. Did you ever have a day like that? It just seemed like you spent the day spinning your wheels and nothing was accomplished.
I’m glad that’s not all there is to the story. As Saul worked at this seemingly mundane task, God worked out His plan. The Lord used this boring day to orchestrate a meeting between Saul and the prophet Samuel. Little did Saul know that Samuel was looking for a king for the nation of Israel. It was through the searching for lost donkeys that Saul met Samuel and was soon anointed king.
You may think you are only working in an office, or keeping a house clean, or attending a class. God, on the other hand, may have more in mind for you than you think. Keep your heart and your eyes open. Maybe He has a meeting planned for you during the day that will change the direction of your life. To prepare for this “divine appointment”, all you can do is stay focused on Him, and let the Holy Spirit guide you.
Allow the Lord to prepare you for the day ahead. You must seek His wisdom for the days that are before you. Only the Lord has access to the map that will lead to your destiny in His will. Only when you seek His guidance will you be ready for whatever He has in store for you.
