Guidance for the New Year

20132012 is over.  We’re now in new territory!  What does this new year hold for us?  There is a way to safely navigate the unknown that lies before us.

Society is taking a dim view of the future.  With talk of fiscal cliffs and higher taxes, many are worried.  There are those who fear an increase in violence and unpredictable weather patterns.  Where can we turn to for answers?  The same place the truth has always been…

The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.  You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
Isaiah 58:11

Our God didn’t get stuck in 2012!  He is with us today.  He knows all about the latest technology – before it’s even invented.  He is well able to bring though to a victorious new year.

It’s a blessing to know that God will never leave us nor forsake us. According to this verse,  He’s the Guide that never fails.  He can find water in the driest desert.  He gives strength in the time of trouble.  If we rely on Him, we will be just like a spring whose source never fails.

Many times people look at us and wonder what’s the secret of our strength.  There seems to be nothing special about us.  On the outside we’re as weak and mortal as everyone else.

What they don’t know is that our strength comes from far below the surface – deep within – where we have tapped into the presence of an Almighty God.  This is the secret to the abundant life.  We must learn to remain in the presence of the Lord.

Because of the hand of God upon our lives, we seem to have an ability to move forward in ways that others cannot comprehend.  This only happens when we take a spiritual drink from the springs of living water that come directly from the Lord.  This is the road to victorious living.

Spend time with your Guide today.  Let Him empower you for the year ahead.  Become that “well-watered garden” in His presence.  That is the only way to assure an outcome of fulfillment and joy throughout 2013.

I pray God’s richest blessing upon you in the coming year!

The Guidance of God

Exodus 13:20-22
After leaving Succoth they camped at Etham on the edge of the desert.  By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.  Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.

God was everything that Israel needed in the desert.  By day He was a pillar of cloud to shield them from the desert sun.  By night He was a pillar of blazing fire to warm them in the cold night air.  But even more than that – night or day – they could see God clearly and follow the path He was marking out for them.

God will go before us in our lives as well, if we let Him.  Our job is to look for the signs of His guidance.  He wants to make the path clear before us.  Even when we go through dark times – when it seems that we can’t go on, He will make a way for us to come through victoriously.

As drivers, many of us put our complete trust in the GPS receiver on our dashboards.  We will turn any direction it tells us to go.  If only we would follow God’s Word the same way, we would have a life that was truly worth living.

Turn your path over to God today.  Let Him be your daily guide.  Enter into the freedom that comes from knowing that the road ahead has already been mapped out.  Commit yourself to following after the only true Guide of our souls.

The Guide

Luke 1:76-80
“And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins… to guide our feet into the path of peace.”
And the child grew and became strong in spirit; and he lived in the desert until he appeared publicly to Israel.

This Scripture concerns the ministry of John the Baptist, who was to be the forerunner of the Messiah.  It is interesting to note that John lived in the wilderness for years in preparation for his public ministry.  One of the things that was spoken of him in this text is that he would “guide our feet into the path of peace.”

Being a guide assumes that you have walked the path already.  John must have learned many lessons as he spent time in the wilderness, alone with God.  These needed to be in place within his life before he ever spoke to the crowds.  God seems to do the best work on our hearts in the private, intimate times that we have with Him.

It is important that we take the time to get into that private “prayer closet” with the Lord.  You need to be looking forward to these times as great learning experiences.  We need to spend time with Him away from all the distractions and commitments that are constantly crying out for our attention.  As you look back, you will find that the lessons learned and the inner growth accomplished have made your time in the presence of God far richer and rewarding than it would have been otherwise.

As you go before the Lord this day, thank Him for the experiences that are still ahead of you on your walk with Him.  Let the Lord know your willingness to be a guide to those who are coming behind you on the spiritual journey.
